This Guide establishes general rules for evaluating and expressing uncertainty in measurement that are intended to be applicable to a broad spectrum of measurements. The basis of the Guide is Recommendation 1 (CI) of the Comité International des Poids et Mesures (CIPM) and RecommendationFile Size: 1MB. It is now widely recognized that measurement data should be properly analyzed to include an assessment of their associated uncertainty. Since this parameter allows for a meaningful comparison of the measurement results and for an evaluation of their reliability, its expression is important not only in the specialized field of scientific metrology, but also in industry, trade, and commerce.

NIST Uncertainty Machine - An online calculator to perform uncertainty evaluations according to the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty Measurement (GUM), the GUM Supplement 1, and the NIST Guidelines for Evaluating and Expressing the Uncertainty of NIST Measurement Results.

International and U.S. perspectives on measurement uncertainty. This document is intended to serve as a succinct guide to evaluating and expressing the uncertainty of NIST measurement results, for NIST scientists, engineers, and technicians who make measurements and use measurement results, and also for our external partners — customers, collaborators, and stakeholders.

It supplements but does not replace. NIST Technical Note Expand or Collapse. TN Version History NIST Guidelines for Evaluating and Expressing the Uncertainty of NIST Measurement Results Cover NIST Technical Note Preface to the Edition NIST TN Foreword NIST TN 1.

Taylor and C.E. Kuyatt and entitled Guidelines for Evaluating and Expressing the Uncertainty of NIST Measurement Results, is in turn based on the comprehensive internationally-accepted publication, Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement, or GUM.

It is strongly recommended that measurement results be corrected for bias, however, in some situations this may not be practical, hence an extension of the Guide is proposed to address this special situation. The method keeps with the spirit of the Guide in maintaining the Cited by: Get this from a library.

The Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM) is intended for all scientific and technological measurements in science, engineering, commerce, industry, and regulation.

So the GUM must have a clear interpretation. But it mixes up concepts from frequentist and Bayesian statistics in ambiguous by: 1.
